A unified voice for the ore-based metallics industry

New Decarbonisation Whitepapers and Updates

We have recently added to our whitepaper series on 'The Role of Ore-based Metallics on the Pathways to Carbon-Neutral Steelmaking', with a paper looking at Hydrogen in Iron & Steelmaking and also a paper on Merchant Pig Iron.

The brief report on Hydrogen in Iron and Steelmaking outlines the different types of hydrogen, the potential use of hydrogen in a range of non-metallic industries and the issues of adoption of hydrogen in iron and steelmaking replacing carbon reductants.

The paper on Merchant Pig Iron introduces its production, types and trade then covers the decarbonisation of the steelmaking process and the role of ore-based metallics in general. A summary of IIMA’s SWOT analysis on pig iron in relation to decarbonisation of steel production is included, followed by information on decarbonisation in the iron casting (foundry) industry and, finally, some thoughts on the future quality of pig iron.

Our whitepapers are available on the public Resources/Decarbonisation section of our website and the Guides in Resources/Logistics & Technical Guides.

In addition, a number of the existing papers have been updated.

Whitepapers in the series

  • Ferrous Metallics for Steelmaking
  • An Assessment of Future Challenges for Electric Arc Furnace Steelmaking
  • Future DRI - Production & Iron Ore Supply - (an update will be out soon)
